The Ministry of Economy, Culture and Innovation of Albania (MEKI) is a key governmental body that integrates policies across three strategic pillars: economic development, cultural promotion, and innovation. Established in 2024 through an administrative reform, MEKI brings together responsibilities formerly held by the Ministries of Economy, Finance, and Culture, enabling a coordinated and cross-sectoral approach.
Within MEKI, the Innovative Projects Directorate is a dedicated unit responsible for the design, coordination, and implementation of projects that foster innovation, digital transformation, and emerging technologies in Albania. The Directorate supports the development of modern public services, promotes innovative ecosystems, and collaborates with national and international stakeholders to pilot and scale forward-thinking solutions across sectors. It plays a key role in aligning project initiatives with government strategies for sustainable development and technological advancement.
MEKI promotes digital transformation as a key enabler of progress across sectors. This broad field focuses on integrating digital technologies into society, business, and government—leveraging tools such as cloud computing, big data, artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and automation to improve processes, enhance services, and develop new digital products.
